Hotel Vagabond, a new luxury hotel, is coming to Singapore in September and buzz about it is reaching fever pitch.
The Vagabond is the first hotel in Asia to be designed by much-admired architect Jacques Garcia. During his storied career, Garcia has designed properties like Paris’ Hôtel Costes and New York City’s NoMad, and he was the driving force behind the revamp of Marrakech’s luxury hotel La Mamounia. He has also designed homes for the Sultan of Brunei and many more A-list clients.
The Hotel Vagabond from the Garcha Hotel group is set in a restored Art Deco building in Kampong Glam, near Singapore’s Little India district. It features 41 guestrooms plus a two-bedroom Suite Royale, all decorated in Garcia’s signature Parisian-chic style with mahogany writing desks, rich textures, and colorful complements. The rooms will also feature a collection of movies curated by Garcia, which will undoubtedly be perfect for watching while curled up in the rooms’ cozy beds snacking on the supply of “artisanal alcohol and eats” the hotel has on offer.
If guests do emerge from their rooms, there are plenty of on-site attractions, including 5th Quarter from restaurateur Loh Lik Peng. Helmed by Gordon Ramsay protégé Drew Nocente, the restaurant will focus on housemade charcuterie and smoked and cured meat and seafood. Wash it all down with craft cocktails at Vagabond Bar or in the hotel’s Salon, a cultural space envisioned as “a modern interpretation of the old Parisian salons.”
The hotel is also debuting a unique Artist in Residence program, which will give poets, writers, painters, and performers access to two spacious, light-filled ateliers. The studios will play host to visiting artists from around the world and were created with the needs of artists in mind, including built-in Murphy beds to create even more work space.
